Bicycle Storage
  • Bicycle storage facilities are provided next to the West Service Gate on the Victoria Embankment
  • To access the facilities, please do so via Victoria Embankment between 07.00-19.00 Monday-Friday. Pedestrian access is not permitted through the arch to the West Service Yard during these times as a safety measure
  • Be aware of who you are allowing access to the facilities. They are access-controlled and for residents only, so all users need a pass to use them
  • The facility is for daily use and not to be used for long-term storage
  • Cyclists use the racks at their own risk. Somerset House cannot be held accountable for any theft or damage of bikes


Car Parks
  • We do not have any car parking spaces available at Somerset House
  • The closest public car park is located on Parker Street (postcode: WC2B 5NT). Parking charges will apply
  • Somerset House is located within the Congestion Charge zone


  • Dogs are welcome in the Exchange workspaces at Somerset House, providing the dog is well behaved and the dog owner agrees to some simple terms and conditions
  • Somerset House reserves the right to overturn the agreement if the terms are not being followed, or if another Exchange member requests that no dogs are present in the Exchange workspaces because of a phobia or allergy
  • Exchange members will need to sign a Dog Agreement form before bringing their dogs in to the Exchange workspaces. Please email or download here


Filming & Photography
  • The Somerset House Trust uses filming and photography as a commercial arm to help fund the estate. We do however try to allow small-scale filming for our residents where possible and appropriate
  • All resident filming and photoshoots require at least two days’ notice and prior approval by Somerset House
  • The courtyard is our largest brand-asset and only permitted for use in Somerset House-related or commercial filming or photography
  • To send a filming or photography request, please contact providing dates, times and more information about the content, proposed distribution and how many people will be involved


Fire Alarms
  • If you hear the fire alarm, please evacuate the building immediately and follow any staff instructions
  • Your Fire Assembly points are as follows:
  • Exchange spaces on the Lower Ground floor, South Wing: Evacuate immediately to Victoria Embankment
  • Model Room or any space on the Ground Floor or above in any Wing: Evacuate immediately to the Upper Terrace next to the Strand Entrance
  • There is a weekly fire alarm test every Monday morning at 09.30. You do not need to evacuate when this takes place
  • In the unlikely event that you require any first aid assistance, Security Control, the New Wing Receptionists and the West Wing Receptionists are fully-trained. To contact Security Control, please call 0207 420 9439


  • Guests can join you for informal meetings in the workspaces. Please ensure that they are accompanied by you at all times. Never loan them your pass
  • If there are more than three people in your meeting, please consider booking a dedicated meeting room or hold your meeting outside of the Exchange areas so as not to disturb others
  • Guests joining you for an informal meeting are able to use the Public Wi-Fi for up to 4 hours. To join this, search for Somerset_House_Public_WiFi
  • You are welcome to use the West Wing Reception and New Wing Reception to meet guests. If you ask guests to report to one of these desks on arrival, our receptionists can then phone you to let you know that they are here
  • When your guests are ready to leave, please escort them to a suitable exit so they do not get stuck behind any pass-secured doors

  • The IT Helpdesk can give basic IT support on connecting to the Somerset House network. They can be contacted at or by calling 0207 845 4629


Meeting Rooms & Event Spaces
  • We have a range of meeting rooms, event spaces and a Screening Room available to hire on a half or full day basis
  • Members receive preferential resident rates for meeting rooms, the Screening Room and other specific event spaces for internal and non-commercial, small-scale events
  • To book a small meeting room for between 8 and 20 people, please email
  • Our larger event spaces, which are listed on our Venue Hire page (excluding the Screening Room), are managed by our Private Events team at commercial rates. To enquire, please contact


Personal Items
  • Members’ areas are accessed by a wide variety of people and leaving personal items unattended is done so at your own risk
  • To ensure there is space for everyone wanting to use the workspace, please use the coat rack provided, rather than hanging coats or bags on vacant chairs
  • Storage space is very limited in the Exchange workspaces. All personal items should only be stored in the small lockers, which are available to hire at an additional charge of £10+VAT per month. Please contact if you would like one
  • Kitchen equipment, cutlery and cups are not provided so please feel free to bring in your own. There is a small space where these items can be stored in the kitchen. Please keep the kitchen area clean and tidy
  • If you bring in food, please keep everything in an air-sealed container
  • If you lose anything, lost property is looked after by


Phone & Skype Calls
  • Please put your phone on silent while you are working in the Exchange
  • You are welcome to take short calls, but please be mindful of volume and of others working around you
  • There is a telephone located in the Exchange specifically for dialling internal extensions. Please see a list of Useful Contacts at the bottom of this page and on the wall behind the handset


  • You are welcome to use the Somerset House address to receive mail. Members’ post is delivered to the Somerset House Post Room. Please pick up your post between 07.00 to 18.00 Mon - Fri
  • The Post Room is located in the Basement of the New Wing. You can reach it form the Exchange by going through the Great Arch Hall and two sets of security doors. You will then find yourself at the bottom of a circular stairwell, walk straight on and into the West Service Yard. Go across the West Service Yard (beware of large vehicles) and it is the first door on the left
  • Post Room staff are often making deliveries across the estate, if you find the room shut please try again later. Should you need to contact them, email
  • Deliveries and courier collections need to be booked in with Security Control in advance. To do this please email
  • For regular mail, your address is as follows. A large amount of post is handled at Somerset House, so to ensure that your post is sorted correctly it must be addressed to the Exchange:

  • A wireless network printer is situated by the entrance to the Exchange
  • Usage is monitored and subject to a Fair Usage Policy. If you require larger print runs we have an account printer which offers A4 and A3 colour printing, scanning and photocopying. To set up an account email Alternatively, we can recommend several printing companies in the local area


  • Your safety and the security of the building is important to us
  • If you notice anything suspicious, however small, please contact immediately or call them on 0207 420 9439 – save this number in your phone
  • As pass holders, you are a member of the Somerset House community and we all play a crucial role in keeping Somerset House a safe place for everyone to work
  • Please do not leave your valuables unattended
  • Please think about who you are letting through pass-activated doors when travelling around the site. It is possible that members of the public could tailgate behind you, so do not be afraid to ask to see someone’s pass before letting them in
  • We encourage you to always wear your passes visibly on lanyards when at Somerset House. This helps others identify you as a resident, particularly when letting you through doors. Somerset House lanyards are available from Security Control if you would like one
  • Please never lend your security pass to colleagues or guests. If you forget your pass please go straight to Security Control, where you can sign out a day pass. Your pass is your ID, gets you discounts and allows access to the workspaces – your day pass will be the same, so this is important!
  • If you lose your pass please flag this with Security Control immediately by emailing This is very important so they can deactivate your old card to keep the building safe. There is a £20+VAT charge for replacing passes and this will be added on to your monthly direct debit. Make sure you keep your pass safe!


  • There is a shower block located on the Mid-Basement of the New Wing. To get there, head over to New Wing 4 (meeting room) and find the Northern Stairs (terracotta-coloured walls) just opposite the room. Go down one floor to the Mid-Basement and turn left through the pass door. The showers are on the left-hand side. There is also a small shower room located at the western-end of the 3rd Floor, South Wing
  • Do not leave any items in the shower room. The room is cleared daily and any left items will be taken to Lost Property in Security Control


Wi-Fi Access
  • Members are provided with an individual login code on joining. The network is called SHT_Residents_WW_SW_EW
  • When logging in for the first time you will be prompted to enter the network key: Somerset_Tenants!
  • You will then be asked to enter your individual username and password, which is given to you upon joining and can be assigned to 3 x devices

  • Wi-Fi is offered on a Fair Usage Policy. Please be mindful that you are using a shared network and excessive uploading or downloading will impact other members’ bandwidth


The Workspaces
  • There are three workspaces that Exchange members can use, comprised of the main Exchange area, the kitchen break out area (both on LG, South Wing) and the Model Room (a shared space on the 3rd Floor)
  • When working in groups, please be considerate to those working around you and keep noise levels low
  • Please leave the rooms as you find them, removing any cups or rubbish as you exit using the recycling bins provided


Your Membership
  • Membership is billed monthly in advance by direct debit. We use a system called GoCardless
  • Membership is per individual, not per company. Companies can be billed collectively
  • Membership usage is monitored. If a Member’s use (excluding meeting or event space hire) exceeds their chosen tariff, you will be asked to reconsider your membership tariff. Additional charges may apply. If a member’s usage exceeds their chosen tariff, we recommend upgrading to a tariff that reflects their true usage patterns
